AI literacy has been a key focus for researchers and stakeholders since 2022, particularly in relation to academic integrity in the age of generative AI (GenAI). TEQSA, the primary regulator of higher education institutions in Australia, provides ongoing guidance regarding assessment security. This presentation highlights various tools, checklists, and best practices for maintaining academic integrity in the context of GenAI. It also discusses AI literacy as well as the policies and procedures implemented at TUA for students to appropriately manage and declare their use of GenAI. Enhancing AI literacy at TUA will improve critical thinking skills necessary for completing both summative and formative assessments, while also preparing students for responsible use of these technologies in their future careers.

The primary focus is to collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders at the university, including course designers, faculty, students, and CLTS, to promote transparency and clarity regarding the use of GenAI tools. It is crucial to provide real-time reporting on the misuse of AI within courses and subjects. At TUA, Power BI is utilized to generate insights from tracking cases of GenAI misuse and identifying core subjects that experience breaches. Additionally, we aim to enhance AI literacy among staff, allowing them to identify and monitor the root causes of issues by providing end-of-term reports. Our two main objectives are to improve AI literacy for both students and educators, and to design assessment tasks that encourage critical thinking while limiting the reliance on GenAI.
